Sis had her baby yesterday. He's a big one! Very healthy and quite contented. 8 pounds 7 oz. of bouncing baby boy. Congratulations!

I would come up with something to say, but all I can think about right now is work. It seems the whole department is in full-fledged overload. Everybody is doing about 3 times as much work as they need to be doing and its starting to show. I've learned one thing: Summers are hell for the computer staff at an academic library, because that's when everybody wants to do everything! ERF!

So, to top off the perfect afternoon I had (see below), as Julie & I were walking away from the library - a bird decided to share a little present with me. Right on top of my head. This was not my best day ever. I guess that means tomorrow can only get better.

Here I am, at work on a weekend again. I was hoping to just spend yesterday doing upgrades, but unfortunately - things didn't work according to plans. We got 8 other machines working fine, but it's that ninth one that sticks in my craw. Of course that's the machine that needs to be up and running. Some workarounds are in place, but I just don't like leaving it sort-of-working.

Thank goodness Julie has been so understanding about all of this. I've been putting in about 50-60 hours a week on this update project alone, and I still have a bunch of other crud to do. Things should be better now as a bunch of the department are back from vacation and I can start doing more of what I'm supposed to be doing -- coordinating.

I had really wanted to join the blogathon this year, but it looks like that's out of question. Maybe next year. ERF!

Don't you feel uncomfortable when you are driving, and you make eye contact with the person driving the car ahead of you through their rearview mirror? You start to fiddle with the radio, check your own rearview mirror, do anything but look directly forward because you know that if you do, that eye contact will happen again. Or am I just nuts?

Food for some deep thought: Frosted Mini-Wheats: Big Biscuit. Think about it.
