On Thursday of last week, something happened that I don't ever remember happening to me before. I was struck speechless. I recieved an award that I have really felt was a great honor. I knew I was getting it, and I had some comments already prepared - but when it came down to give thanks, I choked. I was just so overwhelmed I couldn't really come up with anything.
Those of you in attendance should mark that day. It doesn't happen often that I can't get my big mouth to work. {grin}

So Julie & I got an entertainment center-type cabinet for our tv from somone we know. Now we had to find a way to get it into our appartment. If you didn't know already - I'm not the biggest brute of a man and Julie's got some chronic back problems. This was spelling disaster for this little project. Amazingly enough we were able to get it in to the pickup, out of the pickup and into the apartment without major injury! As I was commenting on this fact while putting away the cart we used to haul it - I got a large, and slightly painful, sliver in the palm of my hand. A gentle reminder for me that the job isn't done until the tools are put away.
If that's the worst (along with some aches and pains) that we have, then we did allright.

As a side note, I finally have the side bar "new links" thingy working again. Let the linkage commence!

I tell ya, you've got to watch where you are going in this town. This morning Julie & saw one truck roll right through two red lights. It wasn't even like he was catching the end of a yellow either, It was Red Light...1...2...3... TRUCK!!!! Right when people were starting to enter the intersection to make left turns. And he did it for two consecutive red lights! I'm glad Julie was paying attention, otherwise I'd be a part of a truck's front grill.
I wish my Dad would come up here and teach these people how to drive the big rigs properly...

Here I am, writing from beautiful rural Nebraska. I'm visiting Mom & Dad for the weekend. I'll tell you that the drive here was very pretty. The leaves are beginning to change color, there wasn't much traffic on the Interstate - just a very pleasant 3 hour drive. Well, it's lunch time, so I'd best go socialize. Talk to you later.
Oh and Julie, wish you were here. Hope you feel better today.

It seems like I've told this story a couple of times lately, so I'll go ahead and tell it here as well.
This was back a few years ago when I would drink every once and a while during dart games. One Spring I joined a couple of people I didn't usually play with to be part of a trios tournament. This tourney started at about 9 in the morning. Everyone (except me) started the day with Bloody Mary's. There I was drinking my colas while everyone else was getting bombed. Anyway my teammates start getting on my case that I'm not drinking. So I decided to show them. I got a shot of Jagermeister. For the uninitiated Jagermeister is a thick, black licorice tasting bit of alcohol that can be rather potent and causes many people to have some interesting physical reactions, usually in the form of retching as it is an "acquired taste". Anyway I take that shot, pound it down, walk up to line and throw a rather impressive round. I go sit down at the booth and say something like, "So, what's the big deal?". They are suitably impressed. I, on the other hand, am hoping that I don't start sweating or that my skin color doesn't change so I can pull off this bluff. You see - I was able to finish my round before the alcohol hit. Let that be a lesson to you young hustlers out there. {grin}

Well, it looks like summer is now officially over. I had to scrape frost off my car window this morning. ERF!

Wheee! I got picked to be a member of The Sims Online playtest! Unfortunately I probably won't be able to tell you too many details until the game comes out. Now, how will Julie take it that I'm obligated to play a computer game now? Just kidding, hon.

It was dark and rainy on the drive to work today. Kind of dismal, really. But listening to some tunes from Propellerheads and Red Delicious on the way made me fell like I was in a spy movie. Groovalicious!
Then I got to the parking lot and realized, "This is Nebraska. There wouldn't be a spy movie here. Rats!"

I'm going through a bunch of free blogger template sites, trying to be either impressed enough to say, "That's the one!" or to be inspired enough to go my own way. I'm thinking, "too country", "too purple", "too anime-ish", "too whatever". That's probably a good thing, right? If I can't find a prefab template that describes me then I'm a unique individual. Now if only I could do something useful instead of sitting here typing on.. my.. blog.... er umm excuse me. Time to get back to work. TaTa!
