Today marked a first for me. Today was the first time I can remember being approached by an organization to apply for a specific position there. I'm not talking about an committee or association thing - I'm talking about a job. It was rather tempting, too. Better pay, more responsibility, nice location (Denver), right type of work - real tempting. I decided to not apply because even with the uncertainty going on here (budget cuts and restructuring), I feel this is where I need to be at this moment. I'm very happy with what I'm doing with my current job and, even though I don't like some of the current politics, this is a good place for me to be.

Don't misunderstand me, they weren't handing me a job on a silver platter. Still feels weird to see a job opening statement in my email that isn't part of listserv or to some general mailing, though. I guess I'm doing pretty good here..

Do people think that it is illegal to pass a police car? As long as you are driving the speed limit and they don't have a siren going - you can pass them. This morning there was this loooong line of traffic behind a police cruiser going about 5 miles per hour slower than the speed limit. I guess Lincoln drivers are just paranoid.

On the other hand - Julie and I lifted weights last night. I think that was the first time I've lifted since, oh I don't know, high school? It seems like I'm a major self-improvement kick lately. Don't do caffine, got my sleeping problem fixed, finding a church, cutting down fat, sugar and alcohol, and now starting an exercise program. Perhaps I'm afraid of the big 3-0? Who knows...

Saturday, Julie & I hosted a little "holiday" get-together with some of our friends. I think everyone had fun, I know I did. It was good to see Alex & Kate again, I don't remember how long it's been since we saw them last.

Sunday, Julie & I went to a church service. We are still hopping around, looking for a place to go here in Lincoln, but we will probably go back to this one again. I've been living in Lincoln since '91 and never really bothered to find a church here in town. I guess I've been either "too busy" or too intimidated by those with the larger congregations.

Sunday night, Julie made some ribs for the first time. I must say they turned out quite well. It is going to be very hard to maintain my figure now! {Hello and welcome to Scott's food log... }

On the other hand, I keep having the same line running though my head, running though my head, running though my head today. Darn you T.A.T.U!!! {If you don't get the reference, count yourself lucky.}

It's amazing how many people come to this page looking for an "emerald cooking show". If you are one of those people, I think you maybe looking for "Emeril Lagasse". His page is here. His TWO shows are Emeril Live and Essence of Emeril. You can thank me later.

I still prefer Good Eats & Iron Chef, but everybody's tastes (pun intended) are different.

Well, here they are - my New Year's Resolutions:
  1. Get in better shape - I'm in decent shape now, but there's room for improvement.
  2. Redesign the web site - This includes the message board!
  3. Get another two articles published - I've got one that's this close to being submitable and then its on to number two.
  4. Restart Hopefully Sapient - I plan on restarting my monthly opinion column over at Jason's Theme of Absence.
  5. Get my stuff together - If Julie & I are going to move into a house this summer, I'd better start getting things in order now!
There you have it, my New Year's Resolutions for 2003. Let's see how I do this year EmFusers!

I got my "sleeping machine" yesterday, and slept with it for the first time last night. Besides a sore throat and some sore spots where the mask was too tight, I feel great. I woke up just a few minutes ago without feeling groggy - even though the sun hasn't come up yet. All my life, I've woken up groggy. I've never known what a full night's sleep was. Now I do.

Julie said I didn't make a noise all night. NO SNORING! That's saying a lot as I usually snore enough to shake the walls and keep everyone in the same room up all night. AMAZING!
