I'm special

For the many of you who don't know, MPLA = Mountain Plains Library Association
Nina Little, MPLA State Representative from Nebraska, is pleased to announce Scott Childers as her designee for the MPLA Board Choice Award for 2004.

Scott Childers is the Assistant Systems Librarian for the University of Nebraska - Lincoln Libraries. He's been involved with the UNL Libraries since 1992 when he started as a student shelver. When he graduated in 1995, he joined the paraprofessional staff, working in both circulation and reference. In 1999, after earning his MLS from Emporia State University, he joined the faculty as the Assistant Systems Librarian and remains in this role today. As part of his role, he has tried to enhance the production of staff & faculty of the UNL Libraries by emphasizing the concepts of computer literacy in all aspects of their jobs, as well as being a resource for any technology related questions they may have. He also continues to research the effects of computer literacy training, of computer interface design, and the convergence of these two areas.

Scott is very active in the shared governance of the UNL Libraries, serving on its Committee on Academic Rank and Tenure since 2000, and serving as its chair in 2003. He also is asked to chair ad hoc committees ranging from simple search committees for positions to redefining policies and practices of the libraries.

Scott's been very active in the Nebraska Library Association since his days as an MLS student. He has been serving as the organization's Internet Site Coordinator since late 1999. He has also been involved in NLA's New Members Round Table serving as secretary and webmaster and as 2000-2001 chair. Scott is the current chair of the Information Technology and Access Round Table.

Scott has been previously honored with the NLA Presidential Award for Excellence in 2000, the Innovative Interfaces Be Innovative! Most Innovative Instruction or Training Program in 2002, and the NLA NMRT's Beginning Professional Award in 2002

When not working Scott enjoys watching classic movies and sports events, throwing darts competitively, and blogging.

Yep, that's me. Ok, I'm done bragging for now.
