More Later
Here it is, the "more later" post. Too bad I've already forgotten most of what I wanted to say....
Anyway, the previous two posts were made during the Nebraska Library Association/Nebraska Educational Media Association's annual conference. The first was during a panel discussion on diversity. The speaker stressed that diversity is not about race, but on the culture & background of people. "View, not hue" is what you should think about when thinking about "diversity issues". I just thought it was a great summary statement. Three words and the point is made.
The second was just a rave about a session on gaming by Dr. Steinkuehler. She studies MMOG's in relationship to learning and cognition. A fabulous speaker and as a gamer, I actually felt validated in my gaming hobby as she spoke of all the skills that are being used without people thinking about them. For example, in a MMOG where people are coming up with mathematical models and success probabilities on certain types of attacks with lots of variables without thinking "It's math", but "I'm beating the game." If you are at a conference where she is talking, go to her session. Fabulous speaker and great material!
