Under a big sky

Julie & I went to visit my parents this last weekend. While driving home, I was suprised on how low the horizon is once you get closer to the Republican Valley area. I shouldn't have been suprised, as I lived out there for a long time, but for some reason I was really affected by the fact I could see for miles and miles with nothing inbetween except a clump of trees or some telephone poles. Apparently, I've been away far too long.

Living out there puts things in perspective. You can watch the storm clouds roll in. You can feel that there is a much larger picture in life, if you just stop and look at it. You get a good sense that you are a part of a much larger world.

I read a phrase recently that struck me as well, "Some people live to work while others work to live." I've been living to work a lot lately, and I don't like it. Reading that phrase and having that drive out West, gave me a wake-up call about how I'm living.
