Moving on up.

I forgot to mention a couple weeks ago that I switched offices at work. I'm out of the basement and now on the second floor. I'm now sharing an office with our Digital Learning Librarians, which should be interesting. One is a comic book scholar, so his area is full of graphic novels, statuettes of comic book characters and lots of cool things. The other is a manga and anime fan, so there's similar things, along with the addition of stuffed "Peeps". My small collection of polar bears pales in comparision!

It is a little weird getting used to sharing an office after six years of having a solo office, but things should work out well. The really interesting part will to try to be a part of both worlds, my home department that I moved out of physically and this new group that I'm part of as a team leader for the program.

Discovering new places

Friday Julie & I went down to Brownville for the afternoon. Brownville is a small little community in Southeast Nebraska, right along the river and across the bridge to Missouri. This small community has a lot of neat little shops, and seems to growing as a cultural center. We spent some time just walking along the main street, just exploring at a nice easy going pace. At most places we chatted with the people in the stores, usually the owner of said store, and every body just seemed so nice and genuinely happy to be there.

We will probably be going back some time, especially to eat at the Lyceum, visit Novel Idea, Chapter 2, and grab a couple of bottles of wine from Whisky Run Creek winery. There's also a few places we didn't see, as my leg was beginning to act up, so there may be more discoveries to be found down there. I'm looking forward to a return trip.

One step back...

I knew I was pushing myself a little hard since my surgery, but today I think I took a major step back while I was taking a step up.

I was going up a flight of stairs and as I approached the top, I felt a sharp pain right above the knee and also a little bit to the inner side of the knee. It wasn't enough to make me collapse, but it sure was enough for me to look for a chair right away.

I toughed it out the rest of the day at work. When I came home I promptly found my place on the couch and put my leg up. Julie came home shortly and encouraged me to ice it down. I'm glad she didn't read me the riot act for not taking care of myself.

Not only am I upset that I may have set myself back physically, but I had to cancel going out tonight to a Saltdogs game with my friend Troy, who I haven't done anything with for months. That's what makes me feel really bad, that I let my friend down.
